HOW TO RECOGNIZE HONEYBEE SWARMS

When a honeybee hive becomes to crowded half of the bees will fly away with a queen to look for a new home. The honeybees follow the sent of the queen and when she lands they cluster around her protecting her. (See photos below) Swarms in the clustered stage are relatively gentle, and the risk of stings is low. Nevertheless, treat swarms with caution. A swarm may hang there for up to a day as scout bees search for a permanent nest site.

Typicaly bees hanging from objects like branches are honeybees. They can also find houses, buildings, and other sites ideal.

It is important to call as soon as possible to have the swarm removed. If given time the swarm will find a permanent home. They love to nest in walls and inside soffits. At that point you may have to have the hive cut out. That can be very costly. (see photos below)
